Nifty Review: All-in-One Project Management at a Predictable Flat Rate

Nifty launched in 2018 with a thesis that has become more common in the PM market: teams are over-tooled, the tool sprawl creates coordination overhead, and a well-designed unified platform can replace three separate subscriptions. Basecamp pioneered this argument; Nifty modernises it with stronger task management structure and a milestone roadmap layer that Basecamp lacks.

Flat Pricing Advantage

Nifty's pricing is its primary competitive angle. The Starter plan at $39/month covers unlimited members with up to 40 active projects and 100GB storage. The Pro plan at $79/month removes the project limit and increases storage to 500GB. Business at $124/month adds admin controls and priority support.

For teams of 8–15 people, this flat pricing compares favourably to per-seat tools. Eight people on monday.com Standard would cost $96/month minimum ($12 × 8). Eight on Asana Starter would cost $80+. Eight on Nifty Starter would cost $39 — less than half.

The pricing advantage narrows or disappears for very small teams (1–3 people) and large enterprise teams (where per-seat costs become negotiable anyway). The sweet spot is 5–25 member teams.

Milestone Roadmaps

Nifty's standout feature is the milestone roadmap. Milestones are high-level deliverables with due dates. Tasks and sub-tasks are grouped under milestones. As tasks are completed, the milestone progress bar updates automatically based on percentage of underlying tasks completed. The roadmap view shows all milestones across projects on a visual timeline.

This automatic progress reflection is more useful than it sounds. In most PM tools, the project roadmap requires manual updates. Project managers either update it themselves (time-consuming) or don't (meaning it becomes inaccurate). Nifty's auto-calculation keeps the roadmap current without administrative overhead.

Integrated Communication

Nifty includes project-specific chat channels and a team-wide general chat. For teams whose Slack usage is primarily project-related discussion, this native integration can reduce the noise of having a separate messaging tool. Files shared in chat are stored in the project's file section. Conversations are searchable and tied to project context.

Limitations

Nifty's feature depth in specific areas is thinner than category specialists. Time tracking exists but lacks the billing configuration and profitability reporting of Teamwork. Reporting is functional but less customisable than Smartsheet or Wrike. The Gantt view is basic compared to Microsoft Project or Wrike.

For teams that need deep specialisation in any of these areas, Nifty's breadth-over-depth approach will require compromises or supplementary tools.

Verdict

Nifty is the strongest option for small-to-mid teams wanting integrated project management, communication, and documentation at a fixed monthly cost. The milestone roadmap feature is genuinely useful and productively differentiated. Teams with complex scheduling, billing, or reporting needs will find it insufficient.
