Canva's free tier is genuinely capable for individual use — most templates, shapes, and fonts are available without a subscription. The jump to Canva Teams ($13/seat/month) unlocks brand kits, background removal at scale, and team folders. Figma moved to a paid-only model for more than one editor, making it a meaningful cost for solo freelancers but predictable for product teams. Adobe's full Creative Cloud bundle remains the standard for print and agency work but is expensive for teams that only need social and digital outputs.
For marketing teams, the ability to export to the right format without a designer is critical. Canva exports PNG, JPG, PDF, and MP4 natively with no technical knowledge required. Figma exports to SVG and PNG with developer handoff via inspect mode, making it the standard for design-to-development workflows. If your primary output is social media graphics, Canva wins on speed. If your primary output feeds a product development team, Figma wins on handoff quality.
